Sérgio Moro: The regional federal courts are technical courts, composed mostly of career magistrates and are also capable of carrying out adequate, impartial and technical work in relation to any criminal cases against political agents.
Sérgio Moro: What I cannot agree with is what has been raised only by the press, because I do not know if it will still be implemented, a proposal that investigations against political agents would come to depend on approval from the respective Legislative Houses.
There, as they say, the remedy is excessive and kills the patient.
Sérgio Moro: Today, under the Constitution, in art. 53, §2, a criminal action brought against a holder of a legislative mandate may be impeded after the complaint is received before the respective House, which can make a deliberative judgment as to whether that action has political motivations or not.
Sérgio Moro: This is a decision that has been interpreted affirmatively: the House has to deliberate in order to be able to suspend.
